What SIV is

SIV is a controlled practice of emergency situations over water in Oludeniz (Turkey), guided by the instructor over radio. You learn to understand your wing and recover confidently from collapses and stalls.

Two modules

SIV program

Take one module, or both — in spring and in autumn alike, as separate 3-day modules: three free days are easier to find in a calendar than a whole week.

SIV 1

Control & collapses

Pitch, roll and brake control, riser work, asymmetric, frontal and accelerated collapses — and recovering from them. Understanding how your wing reacts.

SIV 2

Stalled regimes & reserve

Spirals, stalls and stall exercises, spin, advanced abnormal configurations, reserve procedures and recovery decision-making. For prepared pilots, normally after SIV 1.

Every flight under the instructor’s personal radio control; a debrief after each exercise.

SIV theory — in the online school

Theory for this course is included in its price. Today that is the “Active piloting and SIV” module of the advanced track: 22 sections and 50 questions with explanations — how the wing feels in your hands and what to do with it in rough air. The first sections are open without sign-up; full access is opened by the manager when you pay for the course. The module is in English from the first line to the last — read the opening before you decide. The question bank is being translated.

The deposit (€200 per module, €400 for both) holds your place and is part of the course price; the balance is paid by invoice after the manager confirms. The price covers the course only — training and the instructor’s radio guidance. Boat, personal equipment, insurance, accommodation and transfers are arranged and paid separately as needed. Prices are indicative and may change with the season — the manager confirms the final amount on WhatsApp. Payment in Georgian lari (GEL); if priced in EUR, converted at the bank rate on the day of payment.

Why SIV

Why this course really matters

Many pilots feel comfortable in the air as long as conditions remain predictable. But when the wing changes behavior, pressure drops, or the glider reacts in an unusual way, practical understanding becomes far more important than theory alone.

SIV training helps pilots go beyond general knowledge and work through key situations in practice: how the wing behaves in different flight modes, which pilot reactions actually work, and how to respond more calmly and consistently.

The format allows pilots to safely experience these situations in a controlled environment and build more correct reaction habits. It can be compared to advanced driver safety training: it is better to understand how the system behaves in difficult situations before facing them unexpectedly.

This is not a course about “extreme flying for the sake of it”. The goal of the program is to better understand your wing, develop correct pilot reactions, and improve overall safety in real flights.

From briefing to video debrief

Theory and briefing

Before the flights, participants receive a full briefing with the daily goals, exercise logic, and safety structure.

Practice over water

Exercises are performed in a safer training environment with organized logistics and boat support.

Video debrief

After the flights, each pilot reviews the training together with the instructor.

Step-by-step progression

The difficulty of the exercises increases gradually based on the pilot’s level, understanding, and readiness.

Before the active part of the course begins, the wing, harness, reserve, and general setup should be in proper condition.

Progressive teaching method

One of the key safety principles is not giving a pilot tasks they are not ready for yet, either technically or mentally.

Where it takes place

Turkey — Ölüdeniz

The main location for the program is Ölüdeniz, one of the best known and most suitable places in the world for SIV training. It allows training above water with safety boat support and organized logistics.

SIV 1 and SIV 2 are organized as separate 3-day modules, making it easier to plan participation in advance. Pilots join the course from Georgia, Europe, Turkey, and other countries.

The location, timing, and exact training format may be adjusted based on weather conditions, participant level, and overall program safety.

What to bring

Equipment and documents

Required

Passport
Your own complete, familiar flying setup: a certified wing you already fly regularly, harness, reserve parachute in serviceable condition. We do not rent flying equipment.
Helmet
Working radio — mandatory. Waterproof, or in a proper waterproof pouch/case; tested before the course and securely attached — SIV is over water.
Suitable flying shoes and gloves
Insurance if required for your travel and flying activity: valid sports / aviation insurance if required for your country or route

Important notes

The course is built around the participant’s level, not around one fixed template for everyone.
The main goal of the program is to help the pilot become more aware, calm, and safety-oriented in regular flying.
Not every task is suitable for every participant — the program is adjusted to the pilot’s level and readiness.
Weather conditions, equipment status, and the overall flow of the program are always taken into account during planning.
We provide the buoyancy aid / SIV flotation vest for the over-water part. Everything else you fly with is your own.
Do SIV on a wing you already know and fly regularly — the point is to learn your wing’s behaviour, not a new one’s.
Some harness airbags or back protectors can affect your position in the water; the instructor may ask to adjust, deflate or remove them before over-water exercises.

Payment may be completed through secure online payment methods or international bank transfer, depending on the available option. If pricing is listed in EUR, the final charge may be processed in GEL based on the bank or payment provider exchange rate on the day of payment.

By confirming the booking, the participant acknowledges that they have reviewed the course description, the participation guidelines, and the safety briefing.

If weather conditions do not allow part of the program to be completed on the planned dates, the schedule may be adjusted within the available days and according to safety conditions. If a location adjustment is required for training, all organizational details are discussed in advance.
