Anyone visiting Georgia's mountains for the first time who wants to see the Georgian Military Highway, Gudauri and Stepantsminda with its Mount Kazbek views in a single day. It's a private tour, so it suits couples, families, groups of friends and travellers short on time — no strangers in the car and no rushing.
It is a one-day trip of about 12 hours including all stops. Tbilisi to Stepantsminda is roughly 150–160 km one way along the Georgian Military Highway — about 2.5–3 hours of driving; exact timing depends on the date, weather and the stops you choose.
The tour starts in Tbilisi with pickup at your hotel or address. The departure time is agreed at booking; we usually suggest leaving in the morning, around 7–8 AM, so there are fewer people at Gergeti Trinity Church and you're back in Tbilisi by the evening.

The tour runs year-round, but the Georgian Military Highway over Jvari Pass (2,395 m) can close in winter and spring due to snowfall and avalanche risk — sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for the day. The guide/carrier makes the go/no-go decision on safety grounds; if the road is closed, the tour is moved to another date with no loss of deposit.
A warm jacket and layers (it can be only +10–15 °C at Gergeti Trinity Church even in summer), comfortable shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen — the sun is stronger above 2,000 m. Bring water, some cash in GEL (cards aren't accepted everywhere), a power bank and, for women, a scarf for the church. In winter add warm waterproof shoes and thermal layers.
Yes, children are welcome with their parents, and the private format lets you stop more often and adjust the pace to the child. A child seat is available on request at booking. The drive is long and winding, so bring snacks, water and something for motion sickness.

Yes, conditions permitting, the day can be combined with SkyAtlantida activities: paragliding (year-round), ATVs, buggies and horseback riding (year-round), rafting (June–October), hiking (May–October), snowmobiles (December–May), and in winter the ski school and rentals. All add-ons are booked and paid separately — best to discuss them in advance.
Gergeti Trinity Church sits at 2,170 m above Stepantsminda with the classic view of Mount Kazbek. A mountain road leads up to it; how you get up (in the tour car or a local 4x4) and any cost involved are confirmed at booking. Dress code: women cover their heads (scarves are usually available at the entrance), and everyone needs covered shoulders and knees.
A lunch stop at a traditional Georgian restaurant is optional; meals aren't included and are paid on the spot. Along the way, Pasanauri for example is famous for its khinkali — the guide will suggest where to stop.
The stretch from Gudauri over Jvari Pass is a series of switchbacks, and guests prone to motion sickness may feel it. The front seat, motion-sickness medication taken in advance, a light breakfast and fresh-air breaks all help — on a private tour you can stop as often as you need.
Yes, the tour can be extended to 2 days with an overnight stay in Stepantsminda for +499 GEL: evening views and sunrise in the mountains, extra scenic stops and hidden locations, local cuisine and a relaxed atmosphere. What exactly the extension covers (accommodation, meals) is confirmed at booking.
If you cancel after confirmation, don't show up or arrive so late that the tour can't start as scheduled, the deposit is non-refundable. If the tour is cancelled because of unsafe weather, a closed road or for safety/operational reasons, you get a free reschedule; if rescheduling isn't possible, the deposit is refunded minus payment-system fees within 5–10 business days.
