How to get a pilot certificate in Georgia

Short and to the point: who issues the document, what you have to pass, what it costs and which categories exist.

Who regulates flying

Paragliding in Georgia is regulated by the Civil Aviation Agency. The pilot certificate is issued on the basis of the exams of the Examination Commission of the national paragliding federation. Flying without a valid certificate is a violation.

What you have to pass

The exam has two parts. First theory, then practice: only those who have passed the theory exam are admitted to the practical one.

PartWhat it is
Theory20 questions: four from each topic — Georgian air law, meteorology, flight safety, technical regulations and wing specifications, aerodynamics. Four answer options, one correct. Passed at 80 % and above, i.e. from 16 correct answers.
PracticeA set of flying tasks under the observation of the commission. The tasks depend on the category. Passed when 80 % or more is completed.

Categories

CategoryWhat it means
PGS Single (S)A pilot who has completed the basic course

Fees and validity

Amounts and procedure may change, and the federation’s published materials partly refer to a document that is no longer in force. Check with the federation directly before submitting documents.

Why it pays to double-check the procedure

The document paragliding in Georgia is flown under has already changed in recent years. Decree No. 175 of the Government of Georgia of 10 May 2023 ceased to have effect on 31 August the same year. It was replaced by Order No. 165 of the GCAA director, of 30 August 2023, and Order No. 209 of 19 September 2024 amended it.

The national paragliding federation itself has not worked without breaks either: it has closed and opened again. The Agency, which supervises the federation, can suspend its activity, and paragliding is then banned outright.

What follows from this. Before the exam and before submitting documents, check the current procedure. The knowledge the exam exists for does not go out of date when documents change: meteorology, aerodynamics and safety stay the same. That is what the school modules are built on.

If you already hold a foreign document

The commission recognizes FAI-IPPI, APPI documents and those of the federations of FAI member countries. For recognition you take the theory exam; the pass mark is the same — 80 %.

How our school prepares you for it

The SkyAtlantida online school is built exactly around these five topics. You read the module, practise on questions with explanations, then go through the exam simulator in the same format: 20 questions, a timer, 80 % pass mark. The point is to arrive at the real exam calm.
