Every group has someone who comes to Gudauri for the company: they do not plan to ski, and two weeks of mulled wine in a café is not a holiday. Here are seven reasons to come up to the mountains anyway.
1. Snowmobiles
The simplest way to reach places no lift goes to. A short scenic ride takes minutes; a full freeride tour takes half a day. Children from five ride as passengers with a parent; from sixteen they can drive. Prices start at 199 GEL and the season runs to around 15 April. Details on the snowmobiling page.
2. Tandem paragliding
Winter air is cleaner and the views run further than in summer: the white ridge, the Jvari Pass and the Aragvi valley. A tandem flight needs no preparation — the pilot does the work. Options and prices are in the paragliding section.
3. Husky ride
A sled, snow and dogs that clearly enjoy their job. One round takes three to five minutes and costs 200 GEL; a child can ride in the same sled with an adult for +120 GEL. Rides run by advance booking only — there are few slots per day. Page: husky ride in Gudauri.
4. Horse riding
Forty-five minutes for a first taste, or a proper three-to-four or five-to-six hour tour in the Kazbegi region. Winter routes are shorter, the views are the same. Start with the 45-minute ride.
5. Buggies and quad bikes
For people who want to drive themselves. There are regular buggy tours and quad bike tours, plus a VIP Defender format.
6. Drone filming
Travelling as a group or making content? Consider drone filming: mountains from the air look nothing like mountains from the ground, and the footage stays with you.
7. Day tours
Gudauri is a good base for day trips: Stepantsminda and Gergeti, Juta, Tbilisi with Mtskheta. See the day tours — a car and driver for the whole day, with the route adapted to the weather.
Frequently asked
What if we only have one day?
Paragliding in the morning and snowmobiles after lunch is the classic combination: air and snow in a single day.
Does all of this work in the cold?
Yes — these are winter activities. The exception is flying, which is rescheduled in strong wind, low cloud or precipitation.
Do we need our own gear?
No. Warm suits, gloves and boots can be rented for almost every activity.
How do we get there from Tbilisi?
About two hours along the Georgian Military Highway; transfers are priced per car — see transfer services.
The easiest way to put a day together is the calculator — it prices everything at once, including the drive.
